Checking Accounts Represent Nearly 50% of all Branch Accounts

The number of consumer accounts per branch has grown 3.6% from 2015 to 2017, with checking accounts now representing close to 49% of all branch accounts.

Super regional banks are driving the growth with consumer accounts per branch up 7.2% from 2015 and regional banks down 0.2%. And while both segments saw growth in checking accounts, super regional banks grew significantly more at 10.3% compared to regional banks at 1.3%.

Checking accounts are the entrance product for most customer relationships. Banks must continue to enhance and strengthen their checking account offering and make it easy for customers to add additional accounts and services.
